Newborn and Postpartum Care
Our midwives are trained to perform thorough newborn exams after your baby is born. Unless it is medically necessary, we first allow you ample time to get to meet and greet your new little one. We believe that family bonding time is of the up most importance and always keep that in mind. We will do the newborn exam in the comfort of your own birth suite. In fact, most of it can be done while your baby rests in your arms.
We then welcome you to stay at our birth center and continue to be pampered "Bella Vie" Style for the next 6 to 48 hours.
First Week Courtesy Home Visits
At Bella Vie, we focus on helping your family stay comfortable — we do not want you to leave your house on our account. As a courtesy, we will come to you for your 3-day postpartum visit. At this home visit we will evaluate mom and conduct another well baby exam.
Postpartum Visits
You will then come back to visit us at the birth center for your one, three, and six week postpartum appointments. For those whom are interested, we offer birth control/family planning counseling during these visits. We also offer a pap at your six week postpartum visit.
Newborn Screening/Breastfeeding
Bella Vie offers all routine procedures for newborns, including Vitamin K, eye prohylaxis treatment and metabolic newborn screening as recommended by the state of Oregon. These procedures are options – not mandatory – and can be done while baby is in your arms.
